![]() 'Mount Rainier (14,410 ' - 4392 meters) is an active Cascade volcano encased in over 35 square miles of snow and glacial ice. The Space Needle a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest and symbol of Seattle. Located on the grounds of Seattle Center, it was built for the 1962 World's Fair'The Space Needle is 605 feet (184 m) high. Seattle has grown immensely since this slide was taken with many high rise buildings dwarfing the Smith Tower which appears to be the tallest building downtown. I would have liked to have gotten the space needle and the mountain closer together in a shot, but my viewpoint was limited...and the sun was setting! You know how that goes. A postcard-type picture. (NOTE:< added later: My grandson, Luke, has posted a recent view of Seattle that would be of interest to viewers of my shot. View it here http://coolmariomedia.blogspot.com/2007/04/view-from-seattle-space-needle.html.
